Ken Roberson, a 64 year old Port Charlotte funeral director is the Republican nominee for the Florida House of Representatives, District 71. The district covers parts of Charlotte, Sarasota and Lee Counties. Ken won the Republican Primary held August 26, 2008, receiving 53% of the vote in a 3-way race. He faces a Democratic opponent, Betty Gissendanner, in the General Election on Nov. 4th. Ken is a member of the Charlotte County Republican Club.

Public Defender
Kathy Smith was appointed by Governor Charlie Crist in February of 2008 to take the position of Public Defender for the 20th Judicial Circuit which covers the five counties of Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry, and Lee. Prior to Kathy’s appointment, she was an assistant Public Defender with the office for 18 years. Kathy has represented clients, tried cases, and supervised in the traffic and misdemeanor division, the juvenile division, the felony division, the Early Intervention Docket, the Mental Health Court, and the Drug Court.
In addition to her legal responsibilities, Kathy serves on the Advisory Board of the PACE School for Girls, the Southwest Florida Addiction Services Board of Directors, the Lee County Community Alliance Advisory Board, and the Institute for Youth and Justice Studies Advisory Board.
Kathy received her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Florida. Currently, Kathy is enrolled at FGCU where she is pursuing a Masters Degree in Public Administration.

Sheriff
Bill Cameron started his police career in 1982 with the Fort Myers Police Department. In 1987 he joined the Lee County Sheriff’s Office where he worked for seventeen years reaching the rank of Captain. In December of 2003, he was appointed Sheriff of Charlotte County by Governor Jeb Bush. He made a personal commitment to Governor Bush that he would not run for election in 2004 and he kept his word. Bill served as Sheriff for just over a year and lead the agency through the ravages of Hurricane Charley. At the end of his appointed term, the newly elected Sheriff, John Davenport, asked Bill to stay on with the agency as the Chief Deputy, which Bill accepted with honor. Bill Cameron now serves as the Sheriff’s Executive Officer.
Bill Cameron holds a Masters degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Public Administration, a Bachelor in Science degree in Business Executive Management and an Associate in Arts degree in Criminal Justice. He is an adjunct faculty member at Impac University, an instructor for the Florida Regional Community Policing Institute, and is a staff instructor at the SW Florida Criminal Justice Academy. Bill is also a graduate of the two most prestigious police management schools in the country, the Southern Police Institute in Louisville Kentucky, and the FBI National Academy in Quantico Virginia.
